Though several incentive programs are out there, we elected to install an emergency generator large enough to run our main facility in Waterbury, CT.In January of 2007, Hubbard-Hall applied with the DPUC for this program and five-months later our application was accepted. The program was designed to help Connecticut Light and Power in very high demand situations, so there is little to no impact on the community. Hubbard-Hall is required to comply with the following: - Install a generator on site - Allow CL&P to install a monitoring meter - Pass the initial test - Agree to switch over to the generator within 30-minutes when contacted. In addition to providing a benefit to the community, this generator has the ability to keep Hubbard-Hall running in the event of a power failure. This added benefit is very important as it keeps the computer server and phone systems in tact. We also can manually switch over to the generator to get off the main electrical grid in the event of an impending brownout. Though the Connecticut DPUC has discontinued this particular inventive program, they do offer other ways for companies to contribute and save money. On May 8, 2008, Hubbard-Hall hosted the first bi-annual visit from local high school students at the Inman, SC facility. Twenty-five students from Chapman High School were selected by their chemistry teacher to take part in a “hands on” learning experience and to witness how chemistry can be applied in the workplace. The agenda for the day was developed by Scott Papst and Dr. Doug Patton.During the half-day visit, Hubbard-Hall chemists and technicians demonstrated various laboratory techniques. The exercises included Oxidation/Reduction titrations, Infrared spectrafratometry and Ion chromatography presented by Dr. Patton, Dr. Yin Li, John Lyon and Larry Ensley. Dr. Patton also met with the students and addressed the various projects he has worked on during his tenure, just under 8 years, with Hubbard-Hall. The visit concluded with lunch provided by Hubbard-Hall, which also gave the students an opportunity for discussion. The day was a success, and a special thank you goes out to Brent Burleson and Dr. Patton for coordinating the event and to all employees who participated. Hubbard-Hall in Your Home
