Hubbard-Hall Supports Young Chemists by Sponsoring “You Be the Chemist Challenge”

Waterbury, CT – Hubbard-Hall is excited to announce that they will sponsor the 2023 Regional “You Be the Chemist Challenge” on Saturday, March 4, 11 am at Naugatuck Valley Community College.

The You Be the Chemist Challenge® is an interactive academic contest that encourages students in grades 5-8 to explore chemistry concepts and their real-world applications. The competitors were selected based on scoring the highest on qualifying tests given at school. There are four rounds of 10 questions (multiple choice/short answer) that teams of 3-4 students have to answer.

This year students from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York will participate in the Regional challenge.  The winner of the Challenge will go onto compete Nationally in Houston, TX on June 13.

“We have sponsored this event since it started 19 years ago because it is important to inspire young students to pursue chemistry and STEM-related education and careers,” stated Molly Kellogg, President/CEO of Hubbard-Hall.

The challenge provides a unique opportunity for a variety of individuals and organizations — including schools, members of the chemical industry, educators, and other community partners — to come together and show their support for STEM education.

“I have led this project for Hubbard-Hall since 2017.  As a Chemical Engineer, I am passionate about creating excitement for these students who will be the next generation of scientists and engineers.  During the day of the event it is wonderful to see their enthusiasm and critical thinking come to life.  It is a very enriching day for everyone involved,” stated Faith Mierzejewski, Quality Manager for Hubbard-Hall.
