Delivering a Dose of Good Service to Get a Flocculant Problem Cleared Up
Case Study

A facility that processes hexavalent chrome that must be reduced to trivalent was experiencing an increase in chrome discharge due to suspended solids.
During an on-site audit, our team observed a continuous flow system processing 40 gallons of liquid per minute for 8 hours daily. The facility was using Aquapure OB Plus and Aquapure FW, which were unsuitable for their needs, leading to excessive dilution of the flocculant. Initial tests with the current chemicals confirmed the need for a new approach as the water remained hazy, and the Total Suspended Solids (TSS) level did not reduce.
- Jar Testing: Conducted tests with various dosages of Aquapure OB Plus and FW at pH 8.0. The results indicated a need for different chemistry.
- Product Change: Recommended AquaPure I-300 for a heavier flocculant to prevent carryover into the weir. Suggested proper polymer preparation and usage.
With these adjustments, chrome discharge levels dropped, water clarity improved, and the flocculant performance stabilized. A follow-up showed that the system performed well, with crystal clear water and lower chrome levels.
