Washington Fly In
Each spring Hubbard-Hall attends the NACD Washington Fly In where chemical distributors and their supply chain partners meet with their elected officials in Washington, DC. Molly Kellogg said, “The fly in is a chance for the chemical distribution industry to share our perspective on legislative issues before Congress. The most recent fly in was particularly exciting as it coincided with renewed action on Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) reform, which currently has strong bipartisan support on the Hill.”
In fact, the U.S. House of Representatives just passed legislation on June 23rd to overhaul toxic chemical safety laws for the first time in decades. The bill would require the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to review chemicals in products and issue risk management regulations.
Emerging Leaders Meeting:
A day before the fly in, NACD hosted an emerging leaders meeting where the next generation of company and industry leaders gathered to network with the NACD Board of Directors and learn more about changing regulations in the industry. Robert Augello, Hubbard-Hall’s Manager of Corporate Procurement, was one of the attendees of the event.
Robert gave us his review, “We started with a brief tour of the FBI building where we learned about current security threats to the chemical industry, case briefings, and different partner collaboration techniques. That night, we joined the NACD Board of Directors for dinner on Capitol Hill. Getting to meet face-to-face with the Board of Directors proved to be very beneficial as it gave me the opportunity to gather up-to-date information, outside perspectives, and insight into industry trends and upcoming changes in government regulations. Overall, my meeting proved to be a very productive step towards strengthening the dedication and advancement of Responsible Distribution as well as chemical distribution industry.”
Hubbard-Hall & NACD:
Hubbard-Hall has been a member of NACD since 1972, joining one year after the association was founded. NACD makes us aware of the regulatory issues facing our industry and helps us be safer through the Responsible Distribution program. Responsible Distribution is a mandatory third-party verified environmental, health, safety & security program that lets NACD members demonstrate their commitment to continuous performance improvement in every phase of chemical storage, handling, transportation, and disposal.
