Local Students compete in “You Be The Chemist” Challenges
Hubbard-Hall recently sponsored two “You Be the Chemist” regional challenges for local middle school students. Approximately 50 students from several towns around the Waterbury Connecticut area competed. You Be the Chemist is a fun and educational academic competition for 5-8th grade students in the field of chemistry. The program was designed by the Chemical Education Foundation (CEF) which is a part of the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD). Hubbard-Hall has been a long time member of the NACD and the President and CEO Andrew Skipp currently serves as the Vice Chairman for the organization.
The following schools who participate in the challenge include: Newtown, City Hill (Naugatuck), Great Oak (Oxford), Thomaston, Memorial (Middlebury), Rochambeau (Southbury), Waterbury and students involved in a western Connecticut home school co-op based in Newtown. Prizes were awarded to all participants of the event, and the three top scorers from each challenge received additional prizes and will advance to the Connecticut state You Be the Chemist challenge scheduled for May 1st at the CT Science Center in Hartford. The state challenge will determine which student will attend the national You Be the Chemist Challenge in June, which is sponsored by the CEF.
