Connecticut Paint Stewardship
Statewide Paint Stewardship Program
Business Week – July 1, 2013 – A statewide paint stewardship program implemented by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection went into effect this July. The program requires all architectural paint manufacturers that sell products within the state to register with PaintCare Inc., a non-profit organization established by the American Coatings Association to oversee paint take-back programs nationwide.
Connecticut is the Third State to Adopt a Paint Recycling Program
Residents will have access to more drop off sites for unwanted paint at participating hardware stores, waste transfer stations and municipal household hazardous waste collection locations, the report said. DEEP predicts the program will cut emissions from toxic paint fumes by 32% statewide and save cities and towns at least $700,000 annually.
Connecticut is the third state to adopt a paint recycling program, following Oregon and California, according to the report.
