The Science of Cleaning and Rinsing Aluminum
Presenter: Mike Valenti, Director of Technology
Tuesday, June 6th at 10:00 AM

Aluminum alloys are finding more and more commercial applications, and due to their lightweight, are replacing ferrous and some copper alloys. Unlike ferrous alloys, Aluminum is a greater challenge to clean, due to its reactivity and sensitivity with many chemicals. The applications using Aluminum also have higher cleanliness, higher performance, and higher aesthetics requirements. These requirements dictate use of high volumes of water for rinsing. This talk will cover:

  • The basics of the aluminum cleaning and rinsing processes.
  • How the chemistry of cleaners, contamination on incoming parts, and the parameters of the cleaner bath, can all effect the final rinse quality.
  • Best practices for operating cleaner baths, rinse tanks, and minimization of rinse water.

  • The 5 different options and why some may be better than others.
