Miscellaneous Metal Finishing Chemical

Acid Salts

Acid salts are, dry powdered products, which may be used to replace hazardous liquid mineral acids in plating and metal finishing operations.

The dry acid salt performs a variety of functions such as:

  • Removal of rust, scale oxides, stains, and smut
  • Activate the metal surface for further finishing
  • Can be designed to remove light oils

Advantages of a dry Acid Salt:

  • Safe to handle
  • Non-fuming
  • No special warehousing required
  • Will not over pickle the base metal
  • Single package product
Miscellaneous Metal Finishing: Acid Salts
Acid Salt GP Acid Salt GP is a water-soluble dry acid salt, which may be used in place of sulfuric, or hydrochloric acids in a preplate line. Acid Salt GP may be used as the acid in operations that process both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Acid Salt GP has been formulated for immersion application, or as a cathodic pickle.
Acid Salt M Acid Salt M is a non-fluoride bearing dry acid salt which may be used in place of sulfuric or hydrochloric acid in a preplate or metal finishing line for the removal of rust, heat scale, annealing scale, weld scale, or oxides for metal activation. Acid Salt M can be used with both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Acid Salt PB Acid Salt PB is a water soluble dry acid salt developed for pickling lead brass and bronze alloys and other tin-lead alloys in electro plating cycles. Acid Salt PB prevents reformation of tin and lead oxides on the lead bearing alloys thus promoting maximum adhesion of the nickel plate to the leaded brass alloys.
Acid Salt W
Acid Salt W is a water soluble dry acid salt developed to be used in a preplate line to remove light rust, weld scale or heat treat scale. Acid Salt W can be used on ferrous metals, stainless alloys, nickel plate, copper and copper alloys, zinc die casting, lead alloys, white metals, pewter, titanium and titanium alloys.

Acid Brite 340

*HCL Replacement

Produce a smut free, active metal surface on steel, zinc, brass, copper, nickel, aluminum, pewter, Kovar and Invar. Acid Brite 340 is a liquid acid salt / activator used to replace most mineral acids used for pickling and surface activation in plating operations, including hydrochloric acid (Muriatic) known as HCL. Acid Brite 340 is ready-to-use and does not require dissolving salts.
Bernite 45
Bernite 45 will quickly and effectively dissolve flux residues and heat scale on both ferrous and nonferrous metals. It will dissolve in a matter of minutes the glasslike flux buildup normally found after brazing or soldering and will permit effective part cleaning right on the production line.
Quick Pik 1
Quick  Pik 1 is a combination of dry, free-flowing acids used as a convenient substitute for the more difficult-to-handle liquid acids. Quick  Pik 1 is not as harsh in its action on metal surfaces as are the common mineral acids. It may be used to remove oxides and to activate steel, stainless steel, zinc plate and zinc die castings as well as copper and its alloys.
